First established in 1990 as the Kitikmeot Regional Community Economic Development Organisation (Kitikmeot CEDO), the Kitikmeot Economic Development Commission is the educational and training arm of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association.  Its mandate is to advance the economic status and self-reliance of the Kitikmeot Inuit and the region as a whole.
Working closely with the Kitikmeot Corporation, the KEDC develops and implements educational and training programs for the Kitikmeot Inuit.  These programs give the Kitikmeot Inuit the technical skills, management capabilities and qualifications necessary to take an active role in the development and economic future of our region.
The KEDC is also responsible for administering the Kitikmeot Business Assistance Program (KBAP) and the Nunavut Sivummut Program (NSP). These programs provide funding and assistance to new and existing Inuit-owned business ventures. The funding provided under these programs leads to entrepreneurial, employment, training and educational opportunities for the Kitikmeot Inuit.
