December 17, 2010 – Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. The Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) and First Air are pleased to announce an agreement providing volume pricing for transportation services for the Beneficiaries of the Kitikmeot Birthright Organization; Kitikmeot Inuit Association.
“The Kitikmeot Inuit Association is pleased to provide our Beneficiaries with this discount,” said Mr. Charlie Evalik, President of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association. “We are seeking ways to reduce the cost of living for our Beneficiaries and this is an important step in doing that.”
Effective December 20th, Kitikmeot Beneficiaries will receive reduced rates on First Air’s scheduled passenger flights, as well as special cargo rates to facilitate the shipment of snowmobiles, ATV’s, boat motors and sewing machines.
“First Air is committed to providing tangible benefits to the people living in the communities we serve,” said Mr. Scott Bateman, President of First Air. “In addition to this program, First Air is also looking forward to providing employment and training opportunities through our Sivurariaqnik initiative.”
First Air’s Sivurariaqnik initiative, which launched in October, commits to ensure a continued focus and dedication of resources towards training and skills development for high school, college students and the young people of the North while providing awareness of career opportunities in the aviation industry
and First Air specifically.
The Kitikmeot Inuit Association is an Inuit Organization under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement representing and benefiting the Kitikmeot Inuit of Nunavut.
