Diamond Driller Training Program Corona College

The Kitikmeot Inuit Association along with other agencies including Government of Nunavut, Nunavut Arctic College, Department of Education; Kitikmeot Economic Development Commission; and Newmont Mining sponsored seven Kitikmeot beneficiaries to attend a 20-week diamond-drilling program at Corona College near Grand Falls, Newfoundland.

Participants from the Steering committee were able to attend a “student visit” where members were able to meet with students, learn from their experience and provide encouragement from “home” the delegation was very impressed by the college’s willingness and commitment to the students.

All seven students have now completed the program and are awaiting their final work placement in order to receive final credit towards completion of their program. Newmont Mining Corporation has been working with three diamond drilling companies for to ensure the students continue with their work placement. THE KITIKMEOT INUIT ASSOCIATION is very pleased with the outcome of this project, and will continue to work with Newmont and our partners to ensure ongoing participation in similar projects in the future.
