KIA Freight Subsidy
The objective of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association’s (KIA) Freight Subsidy Program is to relieve costs of freight for harvesting equipment for Kitikmeot Inuit and to preserve and advance Inuit harvesting culture, heritage, and traditional ways of life.
Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for funding assistance, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
- A Kitikmeot beneficiary 16 years of age or older and enrolled in the Nunavut Agreement;
- A harvester who engages in traditional harvesting activity; and
- Resides in the Kitikmeot region
Eligible Expenses
The Program provides funding assistance to cover the cost of freight for eligible modes of transport at 75 percent of the freight costs per request for harvesting equipment from January 27, 2025, to March 31, 2026. Only one application can be accepted for each type of eligible equipment:
- Snowmobiles; ATV’s; UTV’s; Outboard Motors; Boats.
Proof of full payment of freight costs must be provided with application for the application to be processed.
Please note that submissions for incurred freight costs prior to January 27, 2025, will not be processed.
