KIA Announces Freight Subsidy Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 27, 2025- Cambridge Bay, NU: The Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) is pleased to announce that, effective today, Kitikmeot Inuit can get a 75 percent subsidy on the shipping costs of snowmobiles, ATVs, UTVs, boats and outboard motors.
“This Freight Subsidy is part of the KIA’s ongoing commitment to make the pursuit of traditional Inuit activities easier and more affordable,” says Robert (Bobby) Greenley KIA President. “The existing shipping costs on these types of vehicles and motors can put them out of reach for a majority of Kitikmeot Inuit. This is just our way of making getting out on the land for traditional pursuits more affordable and accessible.”
The program is scheduled to be in effect January 27, 2025, to March 31, 2026, and is not retroactive to shipping costs incurred prior to January 27, 2025.
