            Lands, Environment & Resources

            KIA’s  Lands, Environment and Resources Department represents Kitikmeot Inuit interests in regional environmental management and resource development. The KIA manages 106,360 square kilometers of Inuit Owned Lands (IOL) in the Kitikmeot Region to maximize benefits from resource development on IOL, while minimizing potential risks to Kitikmeot Inuit.

            The KIA’s Lands Department is currently looking for a Wildlife Manager to join our Kugluktuk team.

            Responsibilities in Maintaining Our Region:

            • Administration, management, monitoring, and compliance of regional development projects with land tenure on IOL;
            • Policy Development for IOL;
            • Negotiation, management, monitoring, compliance, and implementation of Commercial Leases with mineral industry, comprised of Framework Agreements and Inuit Impact Benefit Agreements;
            • Leading participation in environmental regulatory processes, including those of the Nunavut Impact Review Board and the Nunavut Water Board;
            • Traditional Knowledge studies; and
            • Providing support wildlife and conservation issues.

            This Department upholds the KIA mandate to manage Kitikmeot Inuit Lands and resources to foster sustainable development while promoting the social, cultural, political, environmental, and economic well-being of Kitikmeot Inuit.
