More InfoThe Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) is working on the development of a Conservation Strategy to guide future conservation and protection efforts on Kitikmeot Inuit-owned lands. A major part of this effort will be to meet with HTOs, community members, and traditional land users across our region to discuss potential areas for protection and their concerns about conservation issues. Meetings took place in Cambridge Bay and Kugluktuk earlier this year.
The KIA will be in: Kugaaruk September 16-17; Taloyoak September 18-19 and Gjoa Haven September 22-23 to ask community members to participate on these dates who are traditional land users or have conservation concerns.
September 8, 2025 – Cambridge Bay, NU: The Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) is sad to announce the passing of our President Robert (Bobby) Greenley. Bobby passed away early in the morning of Friday September 5, 2025, in Cambridge Bay, after a prolonged and brave battle with illness. Bobby, elected as KIA President in December 2022, served in that role until his health forced him to take a leave of absence in March of 2025.
The Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) is a Designated Inuit Organization (DIO) under the Nunavut Agreement. The KIA manages the lands in trust for Kitikmeot Inuit, supporting traditional and cultural values and providing economic and social benefits to Kitikmeot Inuit. A not-for-profit designated Inuit organization with community-elected leadership, the KIA represents the Inuit people of the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut.

More InfoMarch 2025:
I would like to take this opportunity to let the Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) community know that I will be taking a personal leave of absence until late June. From the beginning of March until late June, James Eetoolook, currently serving as the KIA Vice -President, Wildlife and Environment will now also assume the role of Acting President of the KIA.
James is more than qualified for the role of Acting President. James is serving his first term as a KIA Vice-President, however his 29 years of previous service as Vice-President of the Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) make him the ideal person to serve the KIA and the Kitikmeot during my temporary absence. James was the first and only Vice-President of NTI until last term when he did not seek re-election and brought his experience, expertise and invaluable knowledge to the KIA.
I know James, the KIA Board of Directors and staff will continue to represent and serve the Kitikmeot while I am away with the same dedication and passion that they always do and will.
In the short-term, if you need to speak to James directly, you can reach him via email at bgreenely@kitia.ca.
I look forward to warmer weather and my return in late June.
President, Kitikmeot Inuit Association
