Kitikmeot Inuit Association Announces the Passing of President Robert (Bobby) Greenley

September 8, 2025

September 8, 2025 – Cambridge Bay, NU: The Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) is sad to announce the passing of our President Robert (Bobby) Greenley. Bobby passed away early in the morning of Friday September 5, 2025, in Cambridge Bay, after a prolonged and brave battle with illness.

Bobby, elected as KIA President in December 2022, served in that role until his health forced him to take a leave of absence in March of 2025.

“Bobby’s leadership and dedication to the Inuit of the Kitikmeot Region were evident from his first day in the role of KIA President to the day his health forced him to take leave,” said Acting KIA President James Eetoolook. “The bravery and strength Bobby demonstrated while facing his health challenges showed exactly the type of person he was. He will be missed personally and professionally.”

Being elected KIA President was the most recent way Bobby served the Kitikmeot, having previously held the role as Chairman of the Ekaluktutiak Hunters & Trappers Organization. Bobby had also been a long-term DEW Line employee as well as a Government of Nunavut employee in the Community and Governmental Services Department.

Flags at the KIA Cambridge Bay Head Office are currently flying at half-mast to mark the loss of Bobby and to honor his accomplishments and remarkable life.

“The KIA would like to say that our prayers and thoughts are with Bobby’s wife, children and grandchildren as well as the entire Greenley and Evalik families,” added Eetoolook.
