COMMUNITY BENEFICIARY COMMITTEES – SOLICITATIONS FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) is coordinating searches to find individuals to fill vacant positions on the Community Beneficiary Committees (CBC) in Cambridge Bay (1); Kugaaruk (1); Kugluktuk (2) and Taloyoak (1). (see below for the Expression of Interest for each community or select the link by community above) – please note that at this time Gjoa Haven does not require new CBC Members.

The CBC consists of five (5) members from the community. The CBC members meet on a required basis (up to four (4) meetings/year) to deal with enrolment of the Nunavut Agreement (NA) and land use issues. A daily honorarium will be provided for attending Committee Meetings.

To be eligible to be appointed to serve as a member of the Committee, an individual shall:

  1. Be a voting member of the KIA;
  2. Be a Canadian citizen;
  3. Have attained the age of 16 prior to appointment day;
  4. Be enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement; and
  5. Have resided in the community for the 12 consecutive months immediately preceding appointment day.

The following individuals are not eligible for appointments to the Committee:

  1. A member of Parliament or the Nunavut Legislative Assembly;
  2. A member of an Institution of Public Government under the NA (e.g. Nunavut Impact review Board, Nunavut Water Board, Nunavut Planning Commission, Nunavut Wildlife Management Board, and Nunavut Surface rights Tribunal);
  3. A member of a Hamlet Council;
  4. A member of the KIA Board of Directors or a full-time staff member of KIA; or
  5. A person convicted of a criminal offence within five (5) years of the opening of Expressions of Interest.
