Notice of By-Election May 2026 Kitikmeot Inuit Association

Notice is hereby given to the voters of the Kitikmeot Region that a by-election will be held on May 27, 2026, for the office of Vice President of Economic Development – Kitikmeot Inuit Association (hereafter referred to as KIA or the Association).

In order to be eligible to be elected and to serve as an Officer, an individual shall:

Be a voting member of the Association;
Not be a member of Parliament, the Nunavut Legislative Assembly, a member of a municipal council; or hold an elected position with Nunavut Tunngavik Incoporated;
Not have been convicted of an indictable offence or a crime involving fraud, breach of trust or immoral conduct within the five (5) year period before the opening of the nominations;
Not be indebted to the Association or a subsidiary organization in the amount of $500.00 or more and has been in arrears for a period exceeding 90 days. Such a person shall not be eligible to be nominated or stand as a candidate unless the amount in arrears is paid in full prior to the closure of nominations:
Have been resident in the Kitikmeot Community in which he/she is running for one (1) year before the date upon which the candidate’s nomination is filed and, if elected, remain a resident in that Community for the duration of his/her term of office.

Nominations will open on April 7, 2026, nominations will close on April 20, 2026, for this position.

A COPY OF A CANDIDATE’S CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK MUST BE INCLUDED WITH THE SUBMISSION OF HIS/HER NOMINATION FORM

Nominations forms can be picked up from your local KIA Community Liaison Officer (CLO) or from the Chief Returning Officer at the Association’s Cambridge Bay Head Office.

The duly elected individual shall serve the remainder of a term that ends December 31, 2027.
